On March 18, 2026, a meeting dedicated to the digitalization of pedigree animals was held at the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia, under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister Mrs. Tatevik Sargsyan. The meeting was attended by the the Austrian Development Agency, representatives of the RA Ministry of Economy, the Center for Agricultural Services SNCO, the National Veterinary Association, the “Genetic Armenia” Association, the CARD Foundation, as well as IT experts who developed the system.
The system was developed in close collaboration with pedigree livestock farmers and their representative association, and is designed to include more than 2,500 pedigree animals imported from Austria. The project was implemented with funding from the Austrian Development Agency through the CARD Foundation. It is based on Austrian best practices, ensuring compliance with international standards.
During the event, the new digital system for the identification and registration of pedigree animals was officially presented. This initiative represents an important step toward the completion of the Animal Identification and Registration (AIR) system and the digitalization of pedigree data. It aims to support pedigree breeding practices, increase the efficiency of the pedigree livestock sector, improve the genetic quality of livestock, and improve livestock productivity.
The main functionalities and capabilities of the platform were introduced during the event. In particular, demonstrations were provided on animal registration, pedigree data management, productivity monitoring, as well as tools for the automatic generation of reports and analyses. The practical application of the system was also highlighted, especially in improving farm management efficiency and enabling data-driven decision-making.
The activities of the “Genetic Armenia” Association, established in 2024 with the support of the Austrian Development Agency, were also presented. The Association aims to unite the pedigree animal breeders, promote the development of pedigree livestock breeding, and provide farmers with modern tools and professional knowledge. The association also plays an important role in strengthening cooperation with state institutions and in the development of sectoral strategies.
This initiative marks an important milestone in the modernization of Armenia's AIR and agricultural sector, enhancing its competitiveness and supporting its development in line with international standards.
