Slaughterhouses are key components of the AIR system and play an important role in ensuring food safety, preventing and managing veterinary risks, as well as in the effective implementation of state control over the movement and slaughter of animals. Therefore, the efficient and proper functioning of the slaughterhouse system is essential for ensuring full traceability of animals and the effectiveness of the AIR system.
Although numerous slaughterhouses have been built in Armenia in recent years as a result of state support programs and private investments, some farmers continue to slaughter animals outside slaughterhouses.
Taking into account the above, as well as the results of discussions held within the framework of the Working Group (WG) of the AIR project, coordinated by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia, and the issues and challenges repeatedly raised by the state and private institutions responsible for the sector, it is planned to conduct a comprehensive study and analysis of the activities of the slaughterhouse system of the Republic of Armenia.
The study is being carried out within the framework of the "Enhanced Animal Identification and Registration System in Armenia for Sustainable Agriculture" project.
The project is funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and implemented by the CARD Foundation in close cooperation with the Ministry of Economy of the RA.
In connection with the launch of the study, a kick-off meeting was organized at the CARD Foundation on August 13, 2026, during which the main directions of the study, the provisions of the contract, as well as the scope of responsibility and cooperation of the parties were discussed.
The second meeting was held at the CARD Foundation on August 18, 2026. During the meeting, the parties discussed the strategy of the upcoming work, the action plan, and the sequence of their implementation.
In particular, it was discussed in which directions the study should be launched, in what stages the planned work should be implemented, as well as with which structures the process should be carried out in cooperation and with which involvement.
